 Ezhou: an eco-frinendly and livable city

 

   New neighborhood attracts university students

  "Do not sell the old house. After I graduate,I will come back to start a company near Wanlian Shopping Plaza," said Chen Jie, an Ezhou-native ,to his father. Chen is currently a university student in Shanghai, but he plans to return after hearing that the community has undergone tremendous changes.

  The community is a microcosm of the city . Chen's family lives in the Nanta Community of Fenghuang Street, one of the earliest large-scale

  communities in Ezhou built in the 1980s. The area had many problems, including the aging of many facilities.Since the end of June 2017, Fenghuang Street has started renovations, and the living conditions of the Nanta Community have been greatly improved.The community has been transformed into a model for the renovation of other old communities.

  On June 25, reporters from Changjiang Daily came to Ezhou to experience the city. More than 50 main and secondary roads and bridges including Ezhou Avenue, Wuchu Avenue and Edong Avenue are wide and in perfect condition.The natural beauty of Ezhou with its lakes and mountains combines with the city's history and local characteristics.

  Ezhou has peen put onto the list of national eco-friendly and livable cites and the city comes in at second place in the province. It has won many national and provincial honors, including being selected as the Nationally Designated Eco-Demonstration Region. It is also the winner of prizes such as the Chiha Outstanding Tourism City,Nationally Designated Garden City,China Habitat Environment Exmple Prize,Hubei Provincial Health City and Hubei Provincial Civilized City.

  Improved city environment changes lives

  In recent years, Ezhou has made great effort to comprehensively improve the environment, modernize sanitation, regulate marketplaces, control traffic flow,and upgrade the municipal cityscape. It has accelerated the process of building Ezhou into a green city, a landscape garden city, a city that features its beautiful villages and a city that constantly improves urban quality of life.

  The city has renovated 553 old residential communities. It has added 2,000 street lights, 600 alleyway lights and more than 10,000 corridor lights in an effort to illuminate the roads. Over 40,000 meters of sidewalk have been upgraded and more than 10,000 traffic guardrails on six main roads have been built, making locals daily outings safer and more convenient. In addition, 3,752 puolnc restrooms have been rebuilt, and 21 villages are under construction to beautify the neighborhood. Thirty- -eight standard comprehensive cultural centers equipped with RMB 100,000 worth of books have been established in local communities, providing children with an area for learning and playing.

  Meanwhile, Ezhou has worked tirelessly to implement projects that increase green spaces in the city and make green space a key consideration in urban planning. The city has built small and medium- sized leisure parks such as Fankou Park, Juyuan Park, Riverside Park, Xishan Park and Yanglan Lake Wetland Park, forming an ecosystem that features large plazas and central parks to optimize the ecological layout of the city and improve the urban living environment.
