Lu Haoqin, a villager from Dashan Village, Zelin Town, Echeng District, has introduced a new service in her local grocery shop—accepting and delivering parcels on behalf of her fellow villagers. Recently, when Zhang Xiuhua visited to collect her package, she provided the pickup code, and Lu Haoqin promptly scanned the courier number with her mobile phone. As a result, Zhang Xiuhua’s package was successfully released to her.
Online shopping has made it possible for couriers to deliver packages right to people’s doorsteps. When it comes to selling agricultural and sideline products, couriers now come to the door to collect items. This has brought immense convenience to rural residents, who are increasingly enjoying the benefits of “delivery to the village”.
By 25th August, the construction of 72 village-level logistics service stations in Echeng District has reached completion, with the full installation of the China Post E-Express system. Notably, 23 of these service stations have successfully introduced four or more courier brands to the villages, resulting in an impressive average handling of nearly 1,500 packages per day.
In June of this year, the Office of the Leading Group for the Construction of Rural Postal Logistics System in Ezhou City has issued a notice detailing their plans to improve connectivity in rural delivery logistics, specifically addressing the challenges in the “last kilometre” and “first kilometre” of the process. The objective is to facilitate the smooth transportation of agricultural products into the city and industrial products to rural areas. This initiative involves the coordination of village post offices, post offices with retail, village-level supply and marketing cooperatives, and e-commerce service stations. The aim is to effectively utilise existing public resources and establish township logistics and express service stations that integrate parking and unloading, collective distribution, and e-commerce express services. Ultimately, the goal is to create a centralised hub for multiple services and brand concentration.
“The integration of rural logistics has had a profound impact on various aspects. It has not only resulted in a significant increase in parcel delivery services but has also greatly enhanced the efficiency of local agricultural products reaching the market and individuals receiving their online purchases. This has brought about convenience for the residents, stimulated market activity, and played a vital role in promoting the overall economic development of the region.” A representative from the Ezhou Municipal Postal Administration emphasised the positive outcomes achieved through this integration.
