On 30th November, the Gedian Economic Development Zone officially announced the commencement of the renovation of the Chuangye Avenue (Gedian section). The section represents one of the three vertical arteries in Wuhan-Ezhou-Huanggang-Huangshi Expressway, featuring a “three horizontals and three verticals” system. It symbolizes the zone’s accelerated pace in construction for the traffic integration into the Wuhan metropolitan area.

The project spans 11.408 kilometers, extending from Right Bank Avenue in the north to Yanjia Lake Bridge in the south, concluding at the boundary of the Gedian District. With a total investment of RMB 286 million and an expected duration of 10 months, the avenue will become the city's trunk road upon the project completion. Its key aspects include road expansion and upgrades, landscaping, widening and renovation of Yanjia Lake Bridge, and the implementation of a smart traffic management system. This includes the update and upgrade of road traffic signals, street lights, and other facilities, incorporating the full coverage of 5G smart poles to improve night lighting and traffic efficiency.
By far, the pavement project from Right Bank Avenue to Youyi Avenue has been 90% completed. The main lane on the east side of the section from Wujiu Railway to Yanjia Lake Bridge has reached 80% completion, with ongoing relocation efforts has been made in the west side from Yanjia Lake Bridge section. The Taiwu intersection area is set to open to traffic on New Year's Day in 2024.
The official from EZSZ, the construction party, highlighted that upon project completion, the overall image of the road will be significantly enhanced. This will further expedite the integration of Wuhan-Ezhou traffic networks, creating closer links with the Optics Valley area of Wuhan new city, and the Gehua area.
