2023 witnessed an extraordinary year. What kind of economic performance did Ezhou present? On the morning of February 27, Ezhou held the first meeting. During the meeting, it was pointed out that Ezhou’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023 was 126.603 billion yuan, reaching an increase of 6.0% over the previous years. Ezhou’s economy has shown strong resilience.
According to statistics, Ezhou’s fixed asset investment in 2023 increased by 8.2%, the total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 7.5%, the general public budget revenue increased by 22.2%, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 5.5%, and the added value of the service industry increased by 6.9% , the total import and export rose by 39.2% . A total of 556 key projects worth over 100 million yuan were launched, and a total investment value of 70.21 billion yuan was completed. Major economic indicators were higher than the average level of the province. A policy fund of 17 billion yuan was secured, marking the highest level in history. There were 23,700 newly-registered business entities, up 8.1%, bringing the total to 158,000. A total of 95 service sector enterprises above designated size were added.
From the perspective of different industries, in terms of the primary industry, the output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery totaled 20.91 billion yuan in the whole year, a comparable increase of 4.5% , higher than the 0.1 percentage point of the whole province, ranking the sixth in the whole province. In terms of the secondary industry from the industrial aspect, 19 of the 32 broad industry categories achieved positive growth in output value. The industrial output value has reached a total of 77.85 billion yuan, presenting an increase of 10.64 billion yuan or an increase of 15.8% over the same period last year. The comprehensive utilization of waste resources generated 9.46 billion yuan in industrial output, while the computer, communications and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry generated 31 billion yuan in industrial output; the power and heat production and supply industries generated 8.68 billion yuan in industrial output, while the ferrous metal smelting and calendering industries generated 28.84 billion yuan in industrial output; the industrial output value totaled 6.3 billion yuan in the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry and the total output value totaled 12.16 billion yuan in the construction industry. In the tertiary industry, the added value of the tertiary industry in Ezhou reached 64.57 billion yuan, up 6.9 percent, pulling the city’s GDP growth by 3.5% and accounting for 54.6% of GDP, while the tertiary industry accounted for 51% of GDP.
