On September 5, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province released data on Hubei’s tourism market during the summer vacation this year.
Hubei received a total of 169.32 million tourist visits in July and August. The travel agencies in the province saw 99,759 electronic contracts signed during the two months, serving 557,800 tourist visits and bringing contract value of about 1.07 billion yuan.
This summer vacation, Hubei became an important tourist destination in China. Major scenic areas saw record-breaking visitors. The Wuhan Happy Valley, East Lake Greenway,Yellow Crane Tower Park, Xiangyang OCT Fantasy Resort, and Tenglong Cave all welcomed over one million tourists each, the Wudang Mountain, Three Gorges Dam and Hubei Provincial Museum more than 800,000, and Enshi Grand Canyon over 500,000, all surpassing the same period in 2019.
Tourists from inside and outside the province accounted for 68.64 percent and 31.17 percent, respectively, while inbound tourists represented about 0.2 percent. Guangdong, Henan, Hunan, Zhejiang, and Chongqing ranked as the major sources of tourists. Young tourists aged from 18 to 40 accounted for 58.5 percent, making up the majority of visitors to Hubei.
